In Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir 26 tourists were brutally attacked and butchered ( mostly in front of their family members). The male victims were selected based on their religion, identifying them by stripping them and ensuring no circumcision and asking them to recite Kalima failing which they were murdered brutally in front of their family members. 26 tourists, including a Nepali citizen, were killed. The brutal terror attack was carried out by the militants linked to The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba off shoot a branch of Pakistani Intelligence department. In retaliation India conducted surgical strikes deep inside Pakistan using missiles and drones. The timeline of events is as follows
April 23: India responded by downgrading diplomatic ties with Pakistan, suspending the Indus Water Treaty, and closing the Attari-Wagah border.
April 24–25: Both countries cancelled visas, began evacuating their citizens, and cut trade links. Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian aircraft and suspended the Simla Agreement.
April 30: Pakistan continued to violate the ceasefire along the border.
May 1: The United States increased its involvement. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with leaders from both countries. India announced it would strike terror camps in Pakistan.
May 3: Pakistan test-fired a ballistic missile. India responded by restricting Pakistani ships and cutting sea trade.
May 7 (12:00 AM IST): India launched Operation Sindoor, striking nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), killing over 150 militants. India warned Pakistan against further attacks.

May 8: Pakistan launched drone attacks on Indian cities, including Amritsar, Jammu, and Srinagar. India retaliated by destroying Pakistan’s HQ-9 air defence system and targeting cities like Lahore and Islamabad. Unconfirmed reports claimed India also struck nuclear facilities in Kirana Hills and Sars.
May 9: The US held urgent calls with both countries. Civilian life was disrupted. Cricket leagues were suspended in Pakistan, and missile alerts were issued across India.
May 10: In the morning, India struck key Pakistani airbases and targets in Rawalpindi. By 3:35 PM, after back-channel talks, both countries agreed to stop fighting. India officially announced a ceasefire at 5:30 PM IST.
Later on May 10 (8:00 PM): Pakistan violated the ceasefire using drones. India quickly shot down all aerial threats.
