China’s Military Expansion: Is the Middle East the Next Power Frontier? It’s Ambitions Set Stage for U.S. Rivalry

China is increasing its influence in developing countries in the Global South, including through military partnerships, a report by Japan’s National Institute for Defense Studies says.

The “China Security Report 2025,” released on Tuesday, claims that China is building military facilities in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

The report warns that if China establishes its first military base in the Middle East, it would mark a new phase in China’s role in the region and could intensify competition with the United States there.
