11 July 2024 Weiser, Idaho
The sound of fiddles being played can be heard throughout the camp grounds. Fiddlers from all over the country have come to Weiser for the National Old-time Fiddlers’ Contest and Festival, which is a long-standing tradition.
Gary Schuh, a board member of the National Old-time Fiddlers’ Contest, said that many people look forward to this event every year. It is a big festival for the town and what puts Weiser on the map.
This year marks the 71st year of the national fiddling competition, which brings the best fiddlers from across the country to Idaho. The event also has fiddlers from Japan and Italy this year.
The fiddle contest starts on Monday and goes until Saturday, with a festival happening at the same time. The event ends with a parade on Saturday.
Schuh shared that he grew up attending the festival and that it inspired him to pursue music. Many other famous musicians also grew up attending the festival and are now professional musicians and bands.
